Creating Highly Engaging Group Inductions

Thu 24th Aug, 2017

Holiday Inn Royal Victoria, Victoria Station Rd, Sheffield, S4 7YE

9:30am - 3:00pm

This intensive and practical one-day workshop has been designed for managers and other staff who have responsibility for the management of Learner Inductions across the sector. This includes Employers, FE Colleges, Learning & Skills Providers, 6th Forms & 6th Form Colleges.

The workshop focuses on institution and learning programme inductions with a specific focus on group inductions. The content may also provide ideas for one to one inductions. The workshop will also look at the use of ICT to enhance delivery.

The effectiveness of a learner’s Induction can significantly influence their first impressions and inevitably, their thoughts on what their learning programme/apprenticeship might be like. It is important that Induction is:

  • not perceived by learners as a ‘signing forms, and being ‘talked at’ exercise
  • a ‘getting learners motivated and excited about their programme’ exercise.

The effectiveness of Induction can impact on many areas of the organisation – not least, improving retention and achievement.

With the right structure and presentation the induction phase can help motivate and enthuse learners, encourage them to continue with their programme in a positive way and simultaneously introduce them to the key underpinning knowledge – helping them both understand and retain the information.
