There are online modules to develop your personal skills and provide support for marking learners’ work. These will be of particular interest to vocational FE and college teachers and teachers of Functional Skills who are now required to teach GCSE.
There are six modules each for maths and English, available now on Foundation Online Learning.
Our Whole Organisation “Health Check” Tool for the effective development of learners’ maths and English skills is designed to support providers to identify critical success factors for a strategic approach to the delivery of maths and English. It can facilitate informed discussion and prompt providers to critically evaluate their approach to maths and English. The Health Check should produce a set of actions that are tailored to individual provider’s circumstances and help them determine the key areas to focus on.
The Excellence Gateway is home to some superb resources such as the four good practice case studies of further education and skills providers offering 16–19 study programmes: published by Ofsted. Recent additions include guides to teaching maths in vocational settings and Unlocking Maths to support the teaching of maths in prisons. The reformed GCSE Maths specification includes new topics and there are five short films showing effective practice as well as five short films showing the teaching of maths in five vocational areas. Finally, you can listen to learners talk about their experiences of re-sitting GCSE maths and English.
