A maths and English teacher retraining programme.
Retrain and Retain is an ETF programme which gives financial and practical support to Independent Training Providers (ITPs) and Further Education (FE) Colleges allowing teachers and trainers, to retrain to become teachers of maths and English, which will provide them with an additional skill-set and enhance their long-term job security.
This scheme was due to finish on 31 March 2018 but has been slightly extended and there may be a few places still available.
FE providers who qualify for the programme will receive a bursary payment in return for identifying suitable participants and allowing them appropriate time and resources to complete training to teach maths or English to GCSE level, or Functional Skills level 2.
Participants on the programme receive 10 days professional development to enhance subject knowledge, 10 hours mentoring supporting by a specialist consultant in the subject field, and mentor training for future programmes. The programme also links to the Professional Standards for teachers and trainers in England.
The programme aims to help boost national capacity in high quality maths and English teaching within the FE sector whilst retaining access to a wide variety of academic and vocational specialist subject knowledge within organisations and the teaching profession, which may otherwise have been lost due to redundancy.
Through new training, the programme hopes to enable teachers to access new ideas that will refresh many areas of their teaching and learning, resulting in a positive impact on learners achieving an appropriate qualification in maths and English.
