The charity is responsible for the sector’s Professional Standards which provide a powerful common language for teachers and trainers, helping practitioners to continue to improve and develop their practice and subject knowledge throughout their careers. The Professional Standards provide a professional development framework for individuals, teams and organisations working across the sector.
The charity is responsible for the sector’s growing professional membership body called the Society for Education and Training (SET) which currently has around 20,000 members.
Through SET, the charity is the only organisation that can award Qualified Teacher Learner and Skills (QTLS) status, the widely-recognised badge of professionalism for practitioners in the Further Education and Training sector. Currently, over 20,000 hold QTLS. The ETF, through SET, also confers Advanced Teacher Status (ATS) which is a further badge of mastery for those teaching and training in the sector. ATS holders also achieve Chartered Teacher Status, through SET’s collaboration with the Chartered College of Teaching.
