Welcoming new T Level providers for 2021

I wanted to extend a sincere welcome to the organisations who have recently been announced by the Department for Education as T Level providers from 2021. It was great to meet those of you who attended the inception event in June which I hope gave you some insight into the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) and how we can help you on the road to T Level delivery.

The aim of this blog is to outline what you can expect from the T Level Professional Development (TLPD) offer, which we have developed based on feedback from providers and in conjunction with various partners to prepare all those involved in T Level delivery with the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver success in their field.

First steps

I know that for most of you the summer has just begun, and you will be taking a well-deserved break. When you feel ready to return to planning and CPD, a good first step would be to look through the online modules which provide training specifically on how the introduction of T Levels will affect your particular role, to help build an understanding of your current professional development needs.

For those of you in leadership roles, the organisational self-assessment tool is a great resource, not only so you can see where you’re up to with workforce development, but also to help you with your preparation for completing the Department for Education implementation plan.

We will imminently provide you with a Professional Development Advisor (PDA) to assist with your workforce development needs. These are knowledgeable individuals who make regular visits to confirmed providers, gathering feedback on how they are progressing with their CPD plans and providing appropriate support. However, you don’t need to wait for your PDA to make contact to start utilising the tools and resources available as part of the TLPD offer.

The PDAs have already completed 144 visits to date, and we are using feedback and intelligence gathered from those to further develop the TLPD programme. From these visits we have already received requests for CPD focussing on both general and subject-specific pedagogy, updating subject knowledge, and assessment. As a direct result of this sector feedback, we have created ‘Assessment for T Levels’ training, an ‘Induction to the FE Sector’ for industry experts who will be joining the teaching workforce and CPD for Governors.

Available resources

As well as teachers and employer-facing staff, support staff such as HR, assessors and curriculum planners will need to know about T Levels because it will take a whole organisational approach for successful T Level delivery.

At the ETF, we have been hard at work to design and deliver effective cross-functional Professional Learning and Development for the 2020 T Levels. As 2021 providers, you also have access to the full complement of the provision, including:

We are constantly developing and updating the offer so please do keep an eye out for future materials and events.

And finally…

Please do encourage your colleagues to sign up for our fortnightly TLPD bulletin so they can receive relevant information on new releases and updates on the programmes.

If you have any questions or queries please get in touch via TLPD@etfoundation.co.uk. We welcome any and all feedback on the kind of information you think is valuable.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Education and Training Foundation T Level Professional Development offer and supporting you to prepare for 2021 delivery.
