Dr Barbara Van der Eecken (MSET) – Self-employed Education and Skills Consultant, BVDE Quality Solutions LTD
Barbara has 30 years’ experience in the Further Education and Skills sector, along with some Higher Education experience. For 20 years she was a modern foreign languages lecturer and manager delivering A-Level, vocational and adult classes in Colleges and Adult Education around the Midlands and at Birmingham University. A qualified teacher and assessor, she completed a Master’s in translation followed by a PhD with Edinburgh University specialising in Francophone literature and was also a Teaching and Learning Coach and an Advanced practitioner. Barbara has held many senior leadership positions in Colleges and, for the last nine years, with large independent training providers. Barbara has led on multiple inspections across the devolved nations with good outcomes and led on external positive audits with Matrix Standards and Leaders in Safeguarding.
She is now an Education and Skills consultant working with workplace providers, universities and colleges and is an associate for trusted associations. Also, a member of the Matrix standards review advisory board, a member of the Career Development Institute and the EPAO Quality Alliance. She also is interested in the #JoyFE movement and is currently Chair of SET management Board and serving as an observer of the ETF Board.
Barbara has helped many organisations advance their Quality Assurance and Development activities through practical and impactful approaches. Her work is centred around the power of collaboration, reflection and action and she has a particular interest in developing, coaching, and mentoring practitioners and leaders across the sector. She wants to continue to champion Quality and Professionalism in Further Education and Skills, increasing collaborations across sectors leading to innovative, inclusive and successful teaching and learning, transforming people’s lives and communities.
