Nigel has been the Principal and Chief Executive of Stephenson College in Coalville, North West Leicestershire since 1 October 2007.
Having trained originally as a teacher and subsequently as a solicitor, Nigel has a doctorate from the University of Birmingham for research into the impact of skills competitions on quality improvement strategies for colleges of Further Education. Nigel is the East Midlands Regional WorldSkills Champion and the Chair of the AoC’s WorldSkills Portfolio Group.
Initiatives led by Nigel include the establishment of the Stephenson Studio School, which was opened on 1 September 2011. Nigel is Chair of the Trustees of the Studio School and a Trustee of the Studio Schools Trust.
Since arriving at Stephenson College Nigel has become the AoC East Midlands representative. He is a member of the Leicester and Leicestershire Colleges’ Principals’ Committee and North West Leicestershire District Council’s Business, Growth and Skills Committee.
Nigel maintains his interest in educational research as a member of Huddersfield University’s Subject Specialist Pedagogy in Initial Teacher Education for Vocational Science, Engineering and Technology Project Steering Group and has presented at the Journal of Vocational Education and Training Conference in Oxford in 2015.
