Steve Freer

Steve Freer held the position of Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) from 2000-2013, following a successful career spanning the public and private sectors.  He previously held senior finance positions with three large local authorities – Birmingham City Council, Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire County Councils – and worked as a successful management consultant with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers).
Steve has held a number of non-executive and trustee positions in recent years including serving as a member of the Boards of the National Audit Office (2005-09), the Centre for Public Scrutiny (2004-13), the Local Government Leadership Centre (2005-09), and as a technical adviser at the Board of the International Federation of Accountants (2007-13).
Steve has also served on and supported a number of Government and other inquiries including the London Finance Commission which published its report, Raising the Capital, in May 2013.
