Engineering and Manufacturing TRIPs

T Level Resource Improvement Projects (TRIPs) are an opportunity for providers and other stakeholders to work together to produce resources that will support the planning and delivery of T Levels.

Feedback request: Have you accessed any of the TRIP resources below? If so, we would really appreciate your feedback. Please fill out this short form.

Below you will find resources created to support the planning and delivery of Engineering and Manufacturing T Levels:

Developing a framework for learning and guidance materials to develop core skills required for the T Level Employer Set Project

Organisations involved: Leicester College

Published date: January 2024

Brief: This resource has three sections:

Framework for learning: This covers 21.5 hours of learning and presents an approach to scaffolding and sequencing the development of oral communication skills, with a focus on speaking. Note that additional time may be required to fully develop the necessary skills. The aim is not to deliver the learning hours consecutively, but to intersperse them in lessons, which allows students to practise and further develop the skill before they move on to the next stage of the development sequence.

Lesson plans: These lessons are contextualised to engineering and manufacturing and core knowledge content. However, providers can amend these to include different contexts based on the core sequencing. In addition, there is a slide deck that providers can use to support delivery of the lessons as indicated in the lesson plans.

Note: There is a separate slide deck that teachers can use with the lessons, in addition to separate videos also designed for use with the lessons.

Guidance for students: The guidance document aims to support students as they prepare for their ESP assessment. It includes some general information about the ESP assessment, and also includes specific information regarding the application of oral communication skills.

Developing formative assessment materials for core exam content (Loughborough)

Organisations involved: Loughborough College

Published date: January 2024

Brief: This resource relates to the core content and prepares learners for the core exams. It has two sections: formative assessment questions and developmental activities.

Resource

Developing formative assessment materials for core exam content (Weston)

Organisations involved: Weston College

Published date: January 2024

Brief: This resource relates to the core content and prepares learners for the core exams. It has two sections: formative assessment questions and developmental activities.

Resource

Developing materials to support understanding of science concepts in core content

Organisations involved: Hugh Baird College and Chelmsford College

Published date: November 2023

Brief: A package of employer-informed materials to support students to develop the required scientific knowledge and understanding. For the specified core content, the materials developed will consist of:

  • a framework for learning covering a minimum of 20 hours of learning – the framework shows how learning would be scaffolded and sequenced to develop the specified core skill
  • lesson plans and associated materials covering a minimum of 20 hours of learning

Resources

Developing Employment Competency

Organisations involved: Middlesbrough College, Darlington College, Southport College, Manchester College, Nelson & Colne College

Brief: This project’s aim was to improve teaching practice within T Levels by preparing learners for the progressive development of employment skills and workplace behaviours. The project generated a range of both route specific and non-specific teaching and learning resources, which sought to embed employers views in the design of activities. These activities enabled learner development of English, mathematical and digital literacies and enhanced collaboration skills through problem based learning.

Resources:

Employer engagement – motor vehicle

Organisations involved: Hertford Regional College and South Devon College

Brief: The Motor Vehicle industry is one of the UK’s major employers. In 2020 there are over 1 million workers employed directly and in the wider sector. The launch of Engineering and Manufacturing T Levels in September 2022 provides a further opportunity for FE learners to progress into the world of motor vehicle maintenance, installation, and repair – including electric and hybrid vehicles. This project focuses on developing resources to support the effective implementation of the motor vehicle occupational specialism.

If you are interested in participating in a TRIP, please contact TRIPs@etfoundation.co.uk

TRIPs are suitable for teachers, managers, and specialist staff, and can also benefit from the involvement of wider stakeholders such as employers, awarding organisations and Higher Education Institutions.

TRIPs are offered to the sector as pre-agreed projects that will produce specified resources to support teaching, learning and assessment for T Levels. Projects are funded to support staff time you will have the opportunity to:

  • shape the content of these projects by informing us of the areas you would like to see covered by additional resources
  • participate in the resource development for one or more projects
  • support the sector and success of T Levels.
