The programme has now been launched and places are bookable for the Association of Colleges/Education and Training Foundation Governance Professionals Conference.
The event takes place in London on Thursday 23 January 2020 and will focus on a wide range of issues facing governance professionals across two panel plenary sessions and three breakout slots.
The morning plenary session will concentrate on themes of leadership and the new Education Inspection Framework. Speakers will include Paul Joyce – Ofsted’s Deputy Director for Further Education and Skills – discussing how a board can be supported to be ready for the new Education Inspection Framework, and Tyne Coast College Deputy Chief Executive Alison Maynard sharing lessons learnt from her institution’s recent inspection. They will be joined by the ETF’s Head of Technical Education, Cerian Ayres, who will consider leadership and governance for the future.
The afternoon plenary will feature University of Stirling Professor of Education Dr Ron Hill discussing the measurement of board effectiveness, and FE Advisor Esme Winch considering governance from the FE Commissioner’s perspective.
In the three breakouts, delegates can choose between sessions focusing on the retention and recruitment of governors, how student governors can be supported, planning for T Levels, and innovative approaches to good governance. Two further sessions will provide an induction for new Clerks and profile a board assurance framework for, and by, the FE sector.
The event will address a wide range of challenges governance professionals are facing, and will be as useful to those new to the role, as to colleagues of long standing.
