Applications for TLPD Industry Insight Placements open

Applications for the Industry Insight Placements that will take place as part of the Education and Training Foundation’s (ETF’s) T Level Professional Development (TLPD) offer opened today (12 June 2019). Applications are being accepted for 175 placements and it is intended that they will take place across all regions of England.

The Industry Insight support aims to ensure that teachers and trainers have the subject knowledge, skills and confidence needed to deliver high-quality T Level programmes from the outset. There are three types of Industry Insight Placements:

  • Work Shadowing involves observing industry colleagues in their day-to-day roles, gaining an understanding of the workplace and possible progression route opportunities, and developing a better understanding of how to support the learner within the classroom, providing a clear line of sight to work. The Work Shadowing placements are of a half or full day duration.
  • Work Placements involve observations and interactions within the work environment that apply to the sector and pathway role and an opportunity to experience working in a specific position within a company to gain a clearer understanding of the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by employees. These will be of one to two days’ duration.
  • Staff Placements in Industry will immerse the teacher within the organisation to gain a better understanding of current industry practice and the requirements of specific roles, offer a unique opportunity to obtain practical experience, and support individuals to work collaboratively with employers to address co-curriculum design and planning, in preparation for T Level delivery. These placements are between three to ten days’ duration.

Remission costs for these placements are £400 per whole day and £200 per half day.

Applications are being accepted in three waves. The deadline for wave one applications is midday on 21 June 2019, for wave two applications it is midday on 12 July 2019, and for wave three it is midday on 13 September 2019. Placements may take place at a time mutually convenient to the applicant, their organisation and the employer, but must be completed by 14 February 2020.

Launch events for those who wish to learn more about Industry Insights are being held in London (26 June), Leeds (27 June), the Midlands (28 June) and the South West (3 July).
