Last week, the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) delivered its first in-person T Level Learning From event at Elland Road stadium in Leeds. Funded by the Department for Education (DfE), the event brought together more than 250 practitioners involved in T Level planning and delivery for a productive day of learning and networking.
Following the success of online Learning From events delivered last year, this in-person event enabled practitioners to access help and support for T Level planning and delivery from colleagues and experts. The Leeds event is the first of two in-person T Level Learning From events this year, with the next one taking place in London on 28 June (a few tickets are still available – book now to secure your free place).
The day in Leeds kicked off with an ETF welcome speech and an engaging keynote address from Ofsted, after which delegates were able to attend their chosen breakout sessions. Educating Yorkshire’s Matthew Burton, now Headteacher at Thornhill Community Academy, addressed delegates as the guest speaker after lunch. Breakout sessions were held again in the afternoon.
Opportunities for networking and peer-to-peer learning and support were available throughout the day during breaks and refreshments. Breakout sessions enabled a more in-depth focus on topics such as support for engaging with employers; preparing learners for their Employer Set Project; embedding English, maths and digital in T Levels; and supporting progression of learners after T Levels.
Delegates at the event shared their thoughts on the value of coming together to learn from others:
“Today’s event is crucial for T Level delivery. […] With a learning event, it’s about networking and looking for new ideas and creating new ideas. [It’s] always interesting to meet other providers and share good practice.” – Stewart Quayle, Head of Construction at Barnsley College
“Being a Wave 1 provider back in 2020, we had nobody who had those experiences to learn from about T Levels, so [today’s event] is a great opportunity for us to be here and share our journey, in the hope that we can support other centres and providers.” – Tracey Herridge, T Level Early Years Teacher at Scarborough Sixth Form College
“I thought [today’s event] would be a good place to learn new things. […] We just started [delivering T Levels] this year, so everything is new for me. We’re learning, so I’m trying to attend every session to get as much knowledge as I can.” – Nadeem Ahmed, Lecturer in Engineering at Kirklees College
If you weren’t able to attend our event in Leeds, there are still a few places available at our London event on 28 June – book now to avoid missing out.
Further courses and resources to complement sessions covered by the Learning from event are available as part of the T Level Professional Development (TLPD) offer, delivered by the ETF and funded by the DfE. Visit our TLPD webpage for more information.
