FutureLearn platform replaces Foundation Online Learning

From 1 April 2022, the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) Foundation Online Learning (FOL) platform will be replaced by FutureLearn as the home for ETF online learning for the FE and Training sector.

FutureLearn is mobile-friendly, so good for studying while commuting, is clearly laid out to make navigation easier and includes indicators of progress, making it simple to pick up where you have left off. It also includes the opportunity to join discussions on relevant topics with other users, enabling the sharing of tips and advice. It is regularly updated to ensure it complies with changes in legislation and users enjoy excellent technical support.

The platform will already be familiar as the home of significant parts of the ETF’s T Level Professional Development (TLPD) and Apprenticeship Workforce Development (AWD) offers. Elements of the ETF’s safeguarding, mentoring, maths and equity, diversity and inclusion support are also already available on the platform. The migration of other aspects of the ETF’s online learning from FOL is ongoing.

Users have a single sign on to access all of their courses, which are displayed on a personal dashboard, and receive certificates of attendance or completion. A full listing of the ETF courses already available on the platform, and those coming soon, can be accessed on the ETF website.

Linsey Taylor, the ETF’s National Head of Online Learning, said:

“ETF support already delivered via FutureLearn has been accessed by many thousands of users and we are pleased to announce that we are now moving other elements of our online learning provision to the platform.

“By choosing FutureLearn, we have strived to ensure that the time-poor educator has a clear view of what they are learning and how valuable it will be for their practice. It can be accessed in short bursts, such as when commuting or having a coffee, and keeps a record of progress, encouraging engagement.

“With the switchover now fast approaching, users of Foundation Online Learning that wish to preserve elements of their learning, or print certificates from it, are reminded to do so before the end of March 2022.”
