New practitioner-led toolkit launched for Apprenticeship Standards

A new toolkit that attempts to define and understand what the sector means by ‘outstanding’ teaching, learning and assessment in the context of Apprenticeship Standards has been published by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF).

Exploring Delivery in Apprenticeship Standards, which shares emerging practice, case studies and tools, is available now on the ETF’s Excellence Gateway site. It reflects research carried out by more than 120 apprenticeship practitioners from 30 organisations across 10 projects. The toolkit profiles the projects, including the practical outputs and downloadable tools and lessons about effective practice derived from them, and features case studies.

Julie Gibbings-Garrett, the ETF’s Head of Teaching, Learning and Assessment, said:

“Apprenticeships are evolving, with the introduction of Apprenticeship Standards, end-point assessment and new funding arrangements. This will mean a significant shift in the way teaching, learning and assessment is approached. The role of the trainer and assessor is changing, with employers taking a greater lead in the design and delivery of the apprenticeships, and a switch in focus from achieving qualifications to competence.

“This toolkit, which has been developed by the Strategic Development Network on our behalf, brings together learning from a diverse and high-profile range of stakeholders including apprenticeship providers, colleges, universities, employers, local authorities, regional networks and end-point assessment organisations. We hope it will provide valuable support and ideas.”
