New Universal SEND Services CPD units added

Two new CPD units have been added to the online Universal SEND Services CPD programme. They explore the themes of ‘Promoting independence’ and ‘Transitions’.

  • The Promoting Independence unit looks at promoting independent learning in the classroom for learners with SEND through high-quality teaching and effective support; and preparing for adulthood from the earliest stage by supporting learners to develop their skills for independence and self-advocacy.
  • The Transitions unit focuses on learners’ ‘macro-transitions’ – moving from one education setting to another – looking at what feeder and receiving settings can do to ensure that transitions are as smooth as possible.

Their addition brings the total number of units now available to 19, with four – exploring understanding executive function, memory for learning, developing skills for mathematics and person-centred working – having been added in December 2023. Units take approximately 20 minutes to complete and are free to access on demand via the Whole School SEND website.

Each is complemented by a live online networking session to contextualise learning. Details of scheduled sessions are available on the networking sessions page.

The Universal SEND Services programme is funded by the Department for Education and delivered by nasen in strategic partnership with the Education and Training Foundation and the Autism Education Trust.
