Positive reception for Knowledge Hubs, TRIPs and Industry Insight TLPD activity

Launch events for the new Knowledge Hubs and Teacher Regional Improvement Project (TRIP) components of the Education and Training Foundation’s (ETF’s) T Level Professional Development (TLPD) offer have enjoyed a very positive reception.

The ten events, held in towns and cities across England at the start of May, drew more than 280 attendees from providers who will begin delivering T Levels in September 2020 and those preparing to do so in later years. Feedback from attendees cited the value of meeting participants from other organisations, pledges to cascade information from the day to colleagues and commitments to pursue cooperative work initiated at the events.

The events also saw significant interest in the TRIPs, with partners taking the first steps to collaborate on subjects including assessment strategies to motivate and retain learners, employer engagement in designing the curriculum, how to effectively embed maths, English and digital skills and relating Industry Placements to provider-based learning. Applicants were very positive about the availability of remission funding for those participating in the projects.

It is expected that 30 of the TRIPs will be established as a result of the first round of applications – due by 24 May 2019 – and an on-demand webinar is available to help applicants. The application window for a further 20 TRIPs will open early in September with a submission deadline of 18 October. Guidance on the process and the application form remain available on the Regional Knowledge Hubs and Industry Insights page of the ETF website.

The events also saw the launch of the Industry Insight component of the TLPD offer, which was announced at the start of May. This activity will engage both current and new industry contacts and is designed to ensure that those who will be teaching the T Levels have access to industry experiences that will help them plan and deliver high-quality learning and to share their insights with their learners, providing a clear line of sight to work. Dates for Industry Insight networking events will be announced in late May or early June. Look out for details on the Regional Knowledge Hubs and Industry Insights page of the ETF website or sign up to the ETF’s TLPD bulletin to stay up to date.
