Eight Top Tips guides focused on recent innovations in teaching practice are now available on the Education and Training Foundation’s (ETF’s) Foundation Online Learning site. The guides, which have been created as part of the ETF’s T Level Professional Development (TLPD) offer, may be used by all teachers but are particularly aimed at those who have been qualified for some time and wish to update some of their practice.
The eight guides focus on:
1. Questioning
2. Active Learning
3. Formative Assessment
4. Feedback
5. Promoting Discussions
6. Constructing Learning
7. Student Autonomy
8. Holistic Teaching.
Each explains the evidence base for its content and is supported by a short video illustrating how teachers are using the tips in their practice. Users can record their own thoughts and reflections using a notepad function.
Also now available as part of the TLPD offer is a suite of 18 videos featuring subject specialist teachers talking about tricky-to-teach areas of the curriculum and offering advice on putting across content that can be challenging to teach. There are six videos in each of the three T Level areas that will be offered from 2020 – Construction, Education and Childcare, and Digital. Each is intended to prepare teachers for what might be demanding topics and stimulate ideas about how best to support learners.
