This section will contain evidence from various research carried out during the CfEM project in order to find out what works for maths in the Further Education (FE) and Training sector.

It will be of interest to researchers and policy makers, but also to maths teachers and managers who are seeking to find evidence to support the promotion of mastery teaching in FE.

For now, it contains the video overviews and detailed reports on action research projects conducted by practitioners in the 21 CfEM colleges and their networks during 2020-21, accompanied by a synthesis of the reports, entitled Changing the Experience of Maths Resits.

By the end of March 2023, this section will be developed to include:

  • A full report on the teaching for mastery randomised control trial, carried out by the University of Nottingham during 2021-22.
  • A full report on a larger-scale research project, being carried out by the ETF and Pye Tait during the autumn term on 2022. This is based on a scale-up of four promising interventions developed as part of CfEM colleges’ action research.
  • Further action research reports from 2021-22 and a final synthesis of the projects.
