The Minimum Core stipulates minimum coverage requirements of FE teacher training programmes in particular areas. The initial iteration issued in 2007 covered the areas of literacy numeracy and ICT. This was updated in 2016 to reflect the new terminology of English, maths, and digital skills. This has now been further updated and newly elaborated to include Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and also Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in order to reflect how both the curriculum and the context have moved forward.
This new version of the Minimum Core applies to all programmes starting from 1 September 2022 and is available to download here. It is expected that all new programmes give due coverage to these areas and so providers are advised to familiarise themselves completely with the content. For your support a short explanatory video has been made by us, available below.
Relevant programmes which started prior to 1 September will of course still utilise the previous version of the Minimum Core, available to download here.
