The Enhance Digital Teaching Platform from the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) is designed to help develop teaching and training practice using technology across the Further Education (FE) and Training sector.
Launched in January 2019, the Department for Education funded digital teaching solution offers free to use modules to support innovation in teaching and training and to improve learner outcomes, equipping learners for the changing world of work where using technology is becoming increasingly important.
Key features of the ETF’s Enhance Digital Teaching Platform include:
An achievements badge system to reward Exploring, Adopting and Leading.
A user-centred, mobile-first design to make it easy for you to access anywhere and anytime on any device.
Facilities to build a community of practice.
The training modules are designed to improve use of technology in teaching and assessment to improve learners’ experiences and learner outcomes. Modules are grouped into categories and mapped to the seven elements of the Digital Teaching Professional Framework:
Planning your teaching
Approaches to teaching
Supporting learners to develop employability skills
Subject-specific and industry-specific teaching
Accessibility and inclusion
Modules are based on three stages of personal development:
Stage 1: Exploring – practitioners assimilate new information and develop basic digital practices.
Stage 2: Adopting – practitioners apply their digital practices and expand them further.
Stage 3: Leading – practitioners pass on their knowledge, critique existing practice and develop new practices.
Both the digital modules and the Framework are relevant to all types of teachers, trainers and assessors across the FE and Training sector, including those working colleges, work-based training, adult and community education and offender learning.
The DTPF, launched by ETF in November 2018, promotes a set of professional standards for supporting learning through technology with the aim to establish a common understanding of digital skills development. The DTPF was built in collaboration with Jisc – a not-for-profit organisation which provides digital solutions for UK education and research. It is mapped to the Jisc Digital Capabilities framework and ETF’s Professional Standards and draws on the EU Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators.
In September 2019, the ETF launched a Management Dashboard for the Enhance Digital Teaching Platform that enables employers to capitalise on these free EdTech resources across your organisation and support your staff development.
