The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) has published a new resource called ‘Creating a Safe Space Online for Teaching and Learning‘.

The resource is divided into three sections:

  • a series of videos talking you through the basics
  • a resource for you to engage with the theory behind the creation of a safe space, i.e. why it is important and how to keep yourself and your learners safe
  • a series of activities and reflections, to support your implementation of the practice.

The resource features practical and easy to implement thinking and activities, rather than solely being focused on technical information. It has been written to reflect any environment where you engage with learners online. The resource has been written to be complementary to our guide ‘Understanding and promoting positive behaviour in the FE sector’ which considers how FE professionals can cultivate a positive environment for staff and learners.

Packed full of practical advice, the guide includes detail on recognising the importance of looking after yourself and taking practical steps; how to be more in control of the delivery; understanding the needs of engaging in an online context and what might be driving behaviour. The guide focuses on practical solutions and on how to support others within your organisation.
