Motivating Learners: communicating that success is possible – Session 1
19-Nov-2021All Teachershttps://booking.etfoundation.co.uk/course/details/1320In session 1 participants will learn about what it
means to build relationships of trust and respect with learners and why
this is an effective way to motivate and engage them. They will consider
how the way they use language in the learning environment can build
or destroy the relationship and how learners can be activated to support one another.
MTDG
Developing responsive teaching to meet learner needs – Session 1
26-Nov-2021All Teachershttps://booking.etfoundation.co.uk/course/details/1320In session 1 participants will explore what good diagnostic & responsive
teaching looks like. They will look at long, medium and short term diagnostic
teaching, and explore what students can do, can’t do, why can’t they do it &
what can we do to help them. Participants will look at how carefully crafted
questions can help to expose misconceptions & common mistakes.
MTDG
Using technology to develop mathematical understanding – Session 1
3-Dec-2021All Teachershttps://booking.etfoundation.co.uk/course/details/1320In session 1 participants will consider how technology can be used to develop learners'
understanding of mathematical concepts. Online tools and activities will be expored
& modelled on how they might be used with students. Participants will have the opportunity
to explore how these uses of technology fit with their beliefs, values and pedagogy, and how
they might be used to make connections & deepen understanding. Participants will get the
chance to reflect and then take ideas to trial in their own setting.
MTDG
Using context to develop mathematical understanding – Session 1
8-Dec-2021All Teachershttps://booking.etfoundation.co.uk/course/details/1320In session 1 participants will consider how to create opportunities to
learn more about how their student think; to build from their informal
approaches and to recognise the power of a photograph for promoting
student engagement. Participants will get the chance to reflect and
then take ideas to trial in their own setting.
MTDG
Motivating Learners: communicating that success is possible – Session 2
7-Jan-2022All Teachershttps://booking.etfoundation.co.uk/course/details/1320In session 2 participants will be introduced to more ideas to effectively build supportive
relationships within the learning environment, for example, how being “stuck” is an
honourable state and making mistakes is just an opportunity to learn. They will share their
successes and challenges and reflect again on what they might do next and then take away
additional ideas and activities to trial.
MTDG
Developing responsive teaching to meet learner needs – Session 2
14-Jan-2022All Teachershttps://booking.etfoundation.co.uk/course/details/1320In session 2, participants will share ideas & investigate how others have developed
as a diagnostic teachers. The session will be modelled in a diagnostic manner
and participants will have chance to experience a diagnostic session.
Maths Teachers Development Group
Using technology to develop mathematical understanding – Session 2
21-Jan-2022All Teachershttps://booking.etfoundation.co.uk/course/details/1320In session 2 participants will explore more online tools and activities that they might want to
take away. They will also get chance to share what they have done, ask questions of one
another and to the course leaders. They will get chance to reflect again on what you might
do next and then take away further ideas and activities, to trial further.
Maths Teachers Development Group
Using context to develop mathematical understanding – Session 2
25-Jan-2022All Teachershttps://booking.etfoundation.co.uk/course/details/1320In session 2 participants will share their experience of researching
their student approaches and discuss the effect of using a
photograph/context as a starting point for emergent mathematical
models such as the bar model and the ratio table. They will get chance
to reflect again on what you might do next and then take away further
ideas and activities, to trial further.
