Assessor to Teacher

This strand of the Apprenticeship Workforce Development (AWD) offers frontline staff delivering apprenticeships the teaching skills and confidence they need for the benefit of their learners. 

This strand is split into two interlinked courses:

  • Understanding How We Learn
  • Developing How to Teach

Who is it useful for?

Assessors, apprentice workplace mentors who are transitioning or have already transitioned to teaching apprenticeships. 

Learning outcomes:

  • Introducing participants to learning theories 
  • Understanding how to apply these theories to the planning and delivery of teaching
  • Approaches to learning and good practice.

Understanding How We Learn

Key principles being taught:

  • Behaviourism
  • Cognitive Constructivism
  • Social Constructivism
  • Approaches to learning
  • Blooms Taxonomy, Growth Mindset and Flipped Learning.

Course delivery: Online course (AWD01): Understanding How We Learn

Recommended 6 hours of self-guided learning. 

Developing How to Teach

Key principles being taught:

  • Knowing your learners, yourself and your subject
  • Schemes of Work
  • Planning lessons
  • Wider responsibilities
  • Formative assessment.

Course delivery: Online course (AWD02): Developing How to Teach

Recommended 6 hours of self-guided learning.
