The premium Graduate Initial Teacher scheme was a pilot programme delivered by three provider consortia to attract highly skilled graduates to teach in Further Education. The pilot cohort graduated in July 2016.
The scheme attracted high calibre and ambitious graduates and those who wish to take a career change, to teach within the Further Education and Training sector. It developed a route into teaching that involves learning on-the-job with professional support and relevant off the job training, leading to both teaching qualifications and QTLS over two years.
The programme delivered over forty highly trained professional graduate teachers into the workforce, many of whom are already moving on to leadership and management roles across the sector. The programme is not currently recruiting for a new cohort, although discussions are underway in relation to transferring the powerful lessons learned in this pilot into a sustainable model for graduate training in the sector.
The programme was delivered by consortia led by Canterbury Christchurch University, Blackburn College and Middlesbrough College. For further information regarding the current programme, please contact Paul Kessell-Holland.
