We are keen to ensure a good workforce supply and so encouraging graduates into teaching in the Further Education (FE) sector is frequently on our agenda.
The Talent to Teach in FE (formerly Pathways to FE teaching) scheme aims to raise awareness of FE teaching as a career option among final year undergraduates. Our delivery partner, East Durham College, devised a fully supported scheme, working with Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and local FE providers to recruit and find placements for third year students within local colleges or independent training providers. 20 students experienced a range of activities including working with learners in the classrooms/workshops and benefited from a structured programme including ongoing mentoring.
We have now run further schemes in Sussex and Kent and South Yorkshire, placing a further 37; and our delivery partner, Cognition Education, are placing 240 in and around the following centres: London, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Cambridge and Leicester.
Some feedback from participants:

“I would just like to thank you and your colleagues for the opportunity to do this placement. It was an invaluable experience and I loved every minute of it.”
“It was amazing and it has truly made me want to work within further education – my decision was not so certain before this placement so thank you so much!”
