TLPD blog: new progress for T Levels at Cheshire College

Cheshire College – South & West is preparing for the delivery of the Health and Science and Childcare T Levels, being supported by the Education and Training Foundation’s (ETF) T Level Professional Development (TLPD) offer.

Working closely with their ETF Area Relationship and Development Lead, Punam Khosla, the College is receiving dedicated advice, guidance and support for engaging with the TLPD offer. Punam said:

“Cheshire College is fully embracing the ETF’s TLPD offer at every level of the organisation, from management to practitioners. As a result, each staff member will now be able to access a personalised action plan and CPD resources which will be key to improving the T Level learner experience. It is wonderful to see the great progress the College is already having with the delivering of T Levels.”

This year, Cheshire College – South & West have had success in securing work placements for learners using a new and creative approach.

Tutors have enabled learners to gain relevant skills, regardless of whether their placement is linked to their career aspirations. For example, those training to be nurses, have visited dentists and those that desire to work in medical science have spent time with pharmacists. Learners will benefit from transferable skills such as communication skills, organisation, leadership, teamwork and numeracy and literacy.

This outside of the box thinking has enabled the majority (82%) of Early Years learners to secure their work placement within the first six weeks of term.

Taylor Burrell, studying Level 3 Health Science, said:

“Being part of a team in a professional environment, learning about different roles and responsibilities and developing essential skills is highly valuable and not something you can easily replicate in a classroom environment.”

Mark Parsons, Assistant Principal, Curriculum, added:

“The College views work placements as an integral part of a learner’s education. It is a great way to try out their future career path, to gain experience, build confidence and will help them stand out from the crowd when it comes to applying for jobs. This continuous development is essential for the implementation of T Levels.”
